After nearly 30 years of dropping music – Divine C.U.T.S. is back with a new sound – proving that his relevancy hasn’t diminished one bit. The Louisville based rapper is back with his latest release, I Like My Bourbon, ft. Jeff Guernsey and it’s everything Kentucky – and more.
The melodic tune perfectly blends Hip-Hop and Country Music, while paying homage to the state’s number one beverage – BOURBON. The anthem is fitting, being that the state of Kentucky produces 95% of the world’s bourbon – and consuming it is somewhat of a culture amongst residents of the Bluegrass State.
Divine C.U.T.S. took things back to the roots of hip-hop when creating this record. In the early days when hip-hop was primarily regional – it was easy to identify what part of the country a rapper was from by their slang, lyrics and production style.
When listening to I Like My Bourbon there is no doubt that this record is from Kentucky. Divine skillfully captured Kentucky’s bourbon culture, while brilliantly combining the state’s inner city music scene with elements of rural Kentucky Bluegrass music.
During an era where trap beats and non-thought provoking lyrics dominate hip-hop – It’s refreshing to hear an artist create music that represents the region they hail from. As refreshing as Kentucky Bourbon!
